I need help and advice as I have a problem, can mature and responsible people out there help me please the ?

QUESTION IS QUITE LONG THOUGH SO EVERYONE PLEASE STAY WITH ME.Well I'm unemployed as I was a temp at Argos for Christmas but they didn't keep me on, an the credit crunch has made everything hard and I am now signing on, and was told by the person who works in the job centre that I might be able to claim housing benefit even though I live in a private place with a landlord that I pay to every month, he said that all I would have to do was to have a word with my landlord try to see if I can get the tenancy agreement back, but I have 760 pounds in the bank for myself from my last job do you think it's worth me asking my landlord as it might make things easier for me and I have been there for about 2 years now and have always paid my rent on time and was told by one of the other housemates that I am liked, should I sort some kind of housing benefit out or just use the money in the bank?Am I entitled to it as I pay 260 per month - what do I do I'm confused?I told the person in the job centre that I hope to have a job in a months time and that I wont be signing on for long but he said what if I don't have a job in a month's time, he might have been right I mean with the credit crunch things are a bit harder.I don't want to make the wrong move and end up on the street, what do I do - Ignorance Is Bliss!!!What if I talk to the landlord and get in trouble for mentioning it as the landlord thinks that I wont have enough money to pay the rent?Or what if the lanlord tells me that I'm not able to do such a thing from that address?I did'nt know that people were allowed to clam housing benefit in private adresses but the guy at the jobcentre said it was possible, what do I do do I take a chance and ask?I dont want to mess anything up!!!The guy at the jobcentre just gave me the number for housing benefit and told me to just go away and think about it, do I wait until I have ran out of money to pay the rent and then claim housing benefit or do I try to claim some now?I was finding things a bit hard as I did want a laptop as I want to be a scriptwriter!!!How do I practically and sensibly do things right?I need help and advice as I have a problem, can mature and responsible people out there help me please the ?

you landlord will probably be pleased because he will be guaranteed his rent
Try talking to your landlord and the housing benefit people, that way you'll know where you stand. Whilst you were working you would have been paying tax so why not get some of that back in the form of housing benefit.
You are entitled to this benefit for council or private tenancy as people are also entitled to mortgage repayments - you paid for it. You are only entitled from the date of claim so do it ASAP. Assure your landlord that you have the money but don't see why you should be paying if you have this benefit and if he would agree. He might be a bit reluctant as it will take time to come through however depending on the sort of guy he is you may be able to work something out in the meantime whether you continue to pay him until it comes through and he can repay you the balance when it does. Good luck with the jobhunting.
I suggest you go to your local Citizens Advice Bureau and ask them, they should be able to give you some idea of the options open to you, or even ask for advice at your Housing Benefit office, I'm sure they will have a set of guidelines on this.
save your money in the bank its yours. i dont understand why you need your tenancy agreement back, why do you need that? all your landlord is bothered about is getting his rent paid. he doesnt care what you claim for or where the money comes fron aslong as he gets it.

if you are entitled for housing benefit then go and claim it but dont tell them how much money you have in the bank.
Your landlord won't kick you out without having good reason, as you say you always pay on time and you're only making an enquiry. As far as i'm aware, you haven't broken any part of your tennancy agreement so the landlord can't legally do anything until you do actually miss payment or whatever. It's better to show your landlord that you're preparing rather than leave it last minute, by the way the people in the job centre are useless!!! You'll find a job somehow.
