Problem with Windows XP read-only folders or Picture Project. Any advice?

Anybody??I'm using Picture project to transfer my digital photos but it won't let me select the folders in the imported folders tab, I have to choose all photos which in running into the thousands. I think it might be the folders I've moved the photos to. They are read-only. I try unchecking the read only box for my folders and select to include all files and subfolders, but as soon as I open up the properties, it's checked again.Problem with Windows XP read-only folders or Picture Project. Any advice?
